Each year, Constellation Research hosts the SuperNova Awards, which acknowledges industry leaders who have overcome adversity by becoming early adopters of disruptive technology. One finalist selected for the “Future of Work” category is Sentinel Applied Analytics (SAA), a Washington D.C.-based firm specialized in extracting value from imperfect data in order to help “banks identify money laundering, Fortune 500 companies expose fraud and corruption, and governments find terrorists and drug traffickers.” Last year, Sentinel instituted the cloud-based productivity platform Intellinote in order to resolve three major issues that they faced in managing their remote employees–“issues that were exacerbated by a highly distributed workforce that often works in high security client environments”:
- An inability to access critical company information in a timely manner.
- Lack of engagement because remote employees (the majority of employees work remotely) felt disconnected to the home office.
- Chaotic workflow affecting company operations including recruiting and placements.
These issues were having tremendous impact on Sentinel’s productivity and revenue, resulting in higher operational costs and loss of consulting profits due to higher attrition rates and slower processes. Intellinote provided Sentinel with the tools necessary to overcome these difficulties by allowing employees to access information anytime, anywhere, and on any device (Intellinote has apps for iOS and Android). Sentinel experienced a smooth 50 percent growth in 2013, and employees now spend 20 percent less time each week hunting for relevant information. Additionally, employees in the field are more engaged because they can keep in touch from anywhere, and “the recruiting team is able to interview and hire competent resources 25-30 percent faster than in the past.”
Intellinote has provided Sentinel with a number of unique and versatile workspace templates that have enhanced productivity and mitigated communication issues. Managers and executives were able to leverage intellinote is order to share information and assignments with coworkers and employees, and Sentinel’s recruiting process was streamlined because these workspaces also function as talent pools and skills databases.
Constellation Research distinguished Sentinel for introducing Intellinote with a disruptive strategy. Sentinel noted that with previous top-down initiatives, employees had been resistant to change, so they decided to first introduce Intellinote to a “small yet influential group within [the company]. Within 4 weeks, thanks to word of mouth – [a powerful tool in organizations] – almost everyone had heard about how Intellinote and it’s easy to use intuitive interface were having a real and positive impact.” When the company officially introduced Intellinote as a company system, the resistance to new technology had been significantly reduced.
By implementing Intellinote, Sentinel created a visible ROI within months, meeting client needs that they were not able to address efficiently in the past. Overall, clients are now more confident in Sentinel’s ability to meet certain fast-changing resource requirements and provide all necessary qualified resources.
